Working in education, we know that the best place for kids to be during the week is at school. Kids thrive in routine. For some of our students, school can feel safer than being at home. Our staff works very hard to ensure that we have a school climate that allows each child to feel safe and loved while they are here. Due to COVID – 19, some of our students have fallen through the cracks and we are trying to reengage these students within the academic setting. We believe students need to be at school daily to receive instruction and to grow academically, socially, and behaviorally. We know that at the elementary school-age children need help from their parents to get to school each day. Therefore, with this money, we would like to positively incentivize the whole family for getting their student to school each day. According to the law (NRS 392.040) on attendance, students 7-18 should be in school. Nevada Department of Education states that each school district in our state should be providing incentives for students and families to aid in reducing chronic absenteeism. These funds would help our team target the students identified above who are severely chronically absent to incentivize the family with an experience. We believe that it is extremely important to create positive family-school connections and the funds received will help make this goal a possibility.
