When students return to school in the fall after a year of virtual learning, it will be crucial the classroom be a welcoming place where they see themselves as part of a community from day one. Pictures are a crucial part of that effort, especially with middle grade students. By having a digital picture frame in the classroom, I will be able to start snapping pictures of students the moment they walk in the door, and display these in real time. Each day as they engage in learning activities I will document these and upload them to the picture frame. Having this near the door when students walk in the classroom every day will remind them, "You matter. You are seen. You are welcome." Along with intentional community building activities and creative academic group work, this picture frame will help students feel included and adjust to being back in the classroom.
