These materials will ensure the student can successfully hike and backpack the back country of Colorado. The student will take on two 10-day backpacking expeditions, in which she will learn how to travel and thrive in the rugged wilderness of Colorado. Leadership and communication theory are central to the mission of the summer program. In addition to wilderness skills, students practice leadership skills and learn how to collaborate and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. They leave the Summer Term with the tools to thrive in high school classes, on sports teams, and as leaders in extracurricular activities
Without the proper equipment, hiking and backpacking in the Rocky Mountains can be nearly impossible so it is imperative that she is equipped properly for the Colorado climate and landscape. The wool socks will ensure that her feet remain dry while trekking the rugged landscape in her hiking boots. The running shoes will provide her feet much needed relief from her boots while she breaks for camp. The lightweight sheets will provide the adequate comfort to her inflatable sleeping pad. The sunglasses, sunglasses retainer, and hat will help protect her from harmful UV radiation since the higher elevation will expose her to higher concentration of UV rays. The water bottles will ensure she stays constantly hydrated and the watch will be essential to managing time as no other electronic or such devices will be allowed. Your donations will ensure that she has the proper equipment that she would otherwise not be able to afford on her own.
