Help my classroom become a space that will allow my young learners to learn most effectively! Six and seven year-olds don't always learn best from their little desks and little chairs. They need alternative spaces in the classroom to work, read, solve math problems, and participate in collaborative groups! When little learners get wiggly, it is time to get up and move! This is when I call my students over to the colorful carpet. This is a perfect spot to teach and learn. Students each have their own square to sit on. I can call them over by an assigned colored square and transition time is cut in half because everyone knows where to go and what to do. A dear teacher friend of mine loaned me this exact colorful, comfortable carpet for use in my second grade classroom last school year. It was used daily for whole class morning meeting time, with a focus on social emotional learning, reading lessons, small groups, and free play/choice activities. I unfortunately had to return this carpet to her, and would love to have one of my own for my students to enjoy!
