I believe that having a strong classroom community allows learners to flourish. In my classroom, this begins on day one. With the challenging year we have had, children need closeness. They need to feel that they are safe, loved, and cared for. I hold a classroom meeting every day. Currently, this happens six feet away from one another. Here we do a check in to see how everyone is doing, I give the students the plan for the day, and relay any messages, changes, or reminders that they need to be aware of. Doing this in the front of the room on the carpet/rug allows for the closeness of a family.
