The arts are an invaluable tool that not only benefit the well being and mental health of students, but also serve as a useful tool for interdisciplinary learning. Visual art can be used as a tool to enhance interest in other subject areas such as; science, math, social studies, history, English and technology. Arts can also aid in interpersonal communication, creative problem solving and community building. Arts programs within the high school setting can also be used as support for athletics to increase camaraderie and enhance school spirit. Increasing student’s exposure to the arts has also proven to increase graduation rates, attendance rates, and student engagement.
