I have a classroom task board with a variety of vocational/ independent living tasks. Each student picks a task for the week. One such task is a laundry station. The student follows the step by step directions to sort, wash, dry, fold and put away a load of laundry. This activity teaches them how to follow the steps of a task, and to take care of their own clothes. It gives them responsibility and the independent living skills they will need as they get older. We also help maintain the school uniform closet which is there to help students who dont have a clean uniform to get one. A new washer would not only help my students gain valuable skills, it would be a benefit to the whole school.
