Objectives 1. To promote among the students and teachers the notion of Cultural Empowerment by: history of others; b) by recognizing that cultural traditions and practices become a actions or initiatives. 2. To promote notions of Civic Engagement by: a) learning how actions and initiatives taken by residents living in South Providence address concerns in the neighborhood; b) learning how Providence residents influence and impact Roger Williams Middle School as well as the neighborhood; c) considering how they can be agents of change in their own communities. 3. To integrate Roger William Middle School Students as a Cultural Resource by: a) introducing teachers and students to the Broad Street neighborhood; b) promoting new, meaningful relationships between schools and the neighborhood. The two primary objectives of the RWMS Our Neighborhood program are: 1. Through a guided tour of the neighborhood, teachers and students will be introduced to the practice of object-based inquiry practices and strategies for incorporating it into their classroom. 2. Students will build on visual literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills by introducing the practice of drawing and writing as a form of visual note-taking and exploration
