Using high-interest, non-fiction picture books is a wonderful way for my students to learn about people who have impacted history, especially people from minority groups. In addition, quality Science picture books can help my students delve into interesting Science topics. Although I have a small collection of quality non-fiction picture books, I am looking to expand my collection since this year I will have many students whom I have previously taught and who have already experienced the books I own. Typically with each picture book, I spend a week reading the book to the students, having them respond to discussion questions and having them learn more about the main topics in the book.
