Students who arrive to the WGS are adjudicated through the Wyoming court systems. They often come from a disarray of broken homes, substance abuse and have been subjected to various forms of trauma in their lives. These students are otherwise known as "at risk students." In addition, they often have gaps in their education and have experienced limited successful educational experiences within the classroom. Over my 25 year experience, my students seem to have benefitted the most educationally through "hands-on" classroom activities. This summer we will be incorporating a new summer course in which students will experience building and restoring their very own projects. The will have the opportunity to be trained in the use of woodworking tools, measurement and the overall engineering process of design. As a recipient of Donorschoose, we can move forward towards providing our students learning opportunities to develop skills, increase self-confidence, and expand their knowledge of trades and possible career paths.
