For years, I have had the joy of teaching upper elementary — the “big kids.” I love their humor, curiosity, and growing independence, and I feel most at home teaching 4th and 5th grade. I teach at a school with limited resources and a wonderfully diverse population. Many of my students come to school with a wide range of learning needs, as well as enrichment needs for my students who are above grade level. As a teacher, my goal is to create a classroom environment where all students feel supported, comfortable, challenged, and ready to do the hard work of learning. Upper grades bring big thinking and big expectations. Students are learning to read complex texts, write thoughtfully, tackle multi-step math problems, and grow as responsible members of a learning community. T
