Please help me give our students a variety of snack choices to feel their bellies and SEL tools to grow and strengthen their coping skills. If a student is hungry, it is hard for them to concentrate on the task at hand and behaviors might result in them getting kicked out of class for acting out. I want to be able to address these two things with students as they come to my office; their social emotional wellness and also their hunger. If I can help our students by providing snacks, their mind will be able to focus on SEL skills and result in them being more successful in the classroom. COVID has thrown many challenges towards our students. Readjusting to school rules, academic demands, and social interactions after learning from home for 18 months is challenging, but our students can push through if given resources to support their social, emotional, and mental well-being. I hope to use the SPOT series to engage students, in 1:1 or in small groups, teaching them coping skills and strategies to address frustrations and other feelings they are having in school. Board games will be used to facilitate opportunities for students to practice their skills. Fidget items will be used as calming tools to help de-escalate a stressful situation and/or to be used by students in the classroom to help keep them focused on classroom lessons. By having these options, my students will have a variety of tools to help them increase SEL skills and be successful during the school day.
