I work with many students who benefit from sensory-friendly seating. I have few options for the students when sitting at tables but the students would benefit from a wider variety of options for flexible seating. Typically, students will rock back and forth on chairs not meant for rocking, they will lean forward on the front two legs of the chair, or lean back on the back two legs. These additional seating options will provide them a safe way to move while seated, without the worry of broken chairs or injuries. Providing flexible seating gives students who require movement while they work the opportunity to move in a safe way that is minimally distracting. I also feel that my students would benefit from shading of the fluorescent ceiling lights. These shades will eliminate the harsh glare, flickers, eyestrain, headaches, and anxiety caused by typical ceiling lights and fluorescent lighting.
