Now more than ever my students have a need for a safe space that can double as a cozy reading nook and cool down corner. With this space, they will have the opportunity to move from their typical seat to a comfortable, soothing space for a break to take care of their socioemotional wellbeing in the method they need whether it is to soothe anxieties, escape into a book, or just to take a break from their desk and chair! By donating to our project, you will be supporting student socioemotional health and instilling a love of reading that will increase not only academic achievement but benefit the whole child. As a cozy reading nook, my students will be encouraged to escape our highly digital world to dive into a great book in a calming space where they can truly enjoy reading. As a cool down corner, this space will allow students to take a moment for themselves so they can calm themselves, manage stress, address their feelings, self-regulate, reflect, and control their impulses to be able to return to their seats ready to learn. This space will help my students feel more secure and welcome, contributing to our classroom community and adding to their sense of belongingness within our school.
