It is a beautiful sunny day at our Elementary. The students rush out to the garden area. They are smiling and excited to put their hands in the soil and plant seeds for the year. However, students begin to notice their knees and body aching from sitting on the hard gravel ground. Noticing this they stand only to bend over to work on their garden. Each week the students eagerly go to the garden to see if the plants are growing. As they see the green sprouts coming up they get excited. Trimming away the unnecessary leaves or stems to make the plants grow bigger and healthier. Fall has arrived and it is time to harvest. Once again there is nothing for them to work on or sit while harvesting their crop. BUT WAIT!! They look over and see a picnic table gleaming in the sunlight. Their excitement rages as they rush to the table to begin working on their harvest. The students then realize with this new gift they can spend more time in the garden. Spending time doing lessons on a beautiful day or just enjoy watching their hard work grow.
