My students were recently given Chromebooks for educational purposes by the school district. Unfortunately, the computers did not come with headphones. This is frustrating when I give an assignment on-line and the students can't listen independently. Additionally, I recently started with a new Response to Intervention (RTI) class with some of the learners who got the devices. The students were chosen to be in my class based on their closeness to meeting the 7th grade state standard for Math and English/Language Art. I was asked to teach BOTH math and reading in a 45 minute class period every day with the students. I went to the supply closet to get a novel to teach ELA, I decided to let them choose between two books. While letting each student peruse the books, I asked who has ever read a novel Only one student out of 25 had every read a novel and that young man did so in another class this school year. I am requesting the novel to be read in the last marking period ( as well as subsequent years) and the headphones for independent learning in my classroom.
