During COVID, I've had to get very creative with the way I teach my students. One way I did that was by hosting "Grammar in the Park", an outdoor classroom experience for my sixth grade students. I hosted two sessions for two hours each. It was a huge success! In spite of not having a sizable white board, I was able to facilitate the lesson rather well. How much sweeter would the experience be when I do it the next time using an actual white board? I'm looking forward to the day! Working at a unique school like ours, I've come to realize some of the disadvantages our students have experienced. In fact, I experienced some of the same disadvantages as a product of an inner-city education back in NJ. My exposure to many of the titles found in the McGuffey read was minimal, if at all. I don't want that for my students. I want them to know there's a world of books considered canonical that will help to broaden their understanding of literature. In fact, it will even prepare them better as they continue to matriculate. Both the white board and the readers will greatly enhance my students learning experiences. I want to do all I can to help them excel! No support is too small. Thank you.
