The students in the small reading groups are readers who need extra support and extra learning to improve their current reading knowledge and performance. Because these students are learning key decoding strategies and rules of the English language, they need extra practice which encourages them to apply the newly learned decoding skill to books. The books requested for this project not only allow the students to practice but also it helps build their confidence levels because they are able to decode and read books at their instructional and independent level. The students ask to read more books like this and enjoy the process of becoming better readers.
