I love teaching! I have taught for over 15 years, and during this unprecedented time, I am being asked to teach in-person and virtually simultaneously. The classroom will not look the same because we will all need to maintain a safe distance. But I want to continue teaching them in small groups with some modifications. Learning in small groups is so valuable to students. I want to have small reading groups, but with some students still learning virtually; this is difficult. My Small Group Vision: All students will be in the main virtual meeting room. I would have my small group in a virtual breakout room, but that would leave the rest of my class unattended in the virtual main room. By having an iPad, I will be able to sign in and observe the students in the virtual main room. I will also be able to share my screen and give the students additional instruction with the iPad, while I am in the breakout room on my laptop with my small group. Having an iPad will allow me to keep my eyes on all students to ensure they are safe.
