My English learners are struggling with reading and in particular, their sight words. My students could benefit greatly from more practice using engaging and authentic resources. The texts provide high-interest, low reader ability opportunities. The books contain full-color photographs and are accompanied by simple sentences made up of sight words. Students can quickly experience success with the help of the repetitive sight words and the rebus picture cards. The two activities that I selected provide sight word practice through the use of physical movement. The Magnetic Sight Word Board allows manipulation of short phrases, picture word magnets, and punctuation magnets. The Sight Word Steps encourage students to practice their word recognition through an active learning environment. Students can step/jump or toss a bean bag to build sight word recognition.
