According to ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), "strong evidence supports the connection between moving and learning," (Jenson, 2005). Having a variety of seating options, such as wiggle seats, wiggle seat cushions, and exercise balls, will allow our students' growing bodies the movement they crave as they engage in classroom activities. The seating options requested in this grant will be especially useful for struggling learners, including those with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, as well as students with anxiety and sensory processing disorders. Students often need physical stimulation to help their brains focus on the kind of higher-order-thinking tasks that push them to the next level. With these materials, our students will be able to stay engaged in tasks longer, ultimately helping them grow more in all subject areas!
