Reeds are expensive, and they break fairly easy. Without a good reed, it is difficult for woodwind players to progress to their full potential. It is just as important as having a good instrument, and a bad reed can make even the best instrument difficult to play well. This year has been especially tough on reeds, because of constantly having to be navigated through a mask. In order to safely play indoors, students are required to wear masks with 2 slits allowing for the mouthpiece to get through, but maintain proper masking. The smallest snag on these masks will cause chips and cracks that make the reed not playable. While I encourage students to keep a supply of their own reeds, I would love to be able to supply them with replacements when their own supply is dwindling so quickly.
