At our middle school, we have a week dedicated to college awareness. As counselors, our teaching goal is to get students ready for college and career after high school. We teach the students about different colleges including technical schools, community colleges and universities. Many of our students will be first generation college students ,and it is exciting for them to learn more about colleges and the options available to them. We try to make it fun and exciting for them to go to college. For college week, we ask faculty, staff and students to wear college gear. Many of our students do not have college gear to wear because it can be too expensive for their families. We have different games and events during the week, and we would love to hand out some gear to kids which they otherwise would not have. These resources would help our kids fit in as well as make them more aware of what post-secondary options are available.
