The world of a child is full of ups and downs in all facets of life. Whether it’s the smallest of inconveniences to them or something major. To us it may not seem like anything the child will get over it. Which may work but not all children have the same reactions, so when that occurs we use mindfulness objects. For example when a child feels frustrated and cannot describe or name the feeling we use charts to figure out which emotional state they are in to help them better manage the emotions. The objects or tools in the mindfulness baskets serve a purpose for each emotion state or a comfort for the child to regain the calmness they had prior to the emotional state they were just in.
The most important factor is children at this age will always need an extra tool to help them manage their emotions. This is just another resource for the teachers and the students to use in an event the child is having a tough time. It is important to remember we are adults and we find it easy to deal with daily emotions, but with this extra resource it makes it easier for the child to transition their feeling to a more relaxed state of mind. This is not just a tool for the classroom they will be able to use these experiences in the future and find different ways to cope with being in a heightened emotional state.
