Brain research has shown over and over our attention span is our age+10 minutes. For my young students, this can range from 10-15 minutes. It is crucial to offer a range of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and verbal opportunities for students to engage with academic content and demonstrate success in these short instructional blocks. One important strategy for student achievement is for me to intentionally plan moments where my students partake in cooperative learning and engagement not only with the text but discussion with their peers. Kagan Workshops offer ideas on how to conduct this in a COVID SAFE, hybrid learning environment.
