My students come from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. I want to create a space where they can all come together in a judgment-free, comfortable space that feels like home to read their independent reading novels. Some of my students have never had the chance to curl up and read a good book. I have worked so hard to build a classroom library where students can find reading material of all genres and I trust them to borrow and return books for their independent reading assignments. I want to give them a space to sit on the floor and lean against the wall and curl up and read a good book, especially if they have never had this opportunity at home. This space will give students comfort and peace while they build literacy skills. I have a giant space in my classroom of the empty, cold, tile floors. I want to transform this area into a reading zone where students can spread out and relax while they read. Every child deserves to have space where they experience a peaceful place to read a good book and enhance their literacy skills. The rugsa nd pillows in my request will help me build this opportunity for my students.
