As a Kindergarten teacher, my goal is to instill a love of learning in my students. It is not just about the academics; it's about learning how to be a successful person and citizen. Flexible, or alternate seating has many benefits for students. It encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Comfortable students are engaged students. Flexible seating allows students to be empowered and make the choices that work best for them. Many flexible seating options stimulate students’ sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD as well as students with Autism. Children need to move.Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. Currently, while students are working independently or collaboratively, they have a choice to sit on their hard, uncomfortable school chair or the floor. I hope to do a whole classroom over-hall! The products that I have selected will help give my students additional seating options to make more effective learning choices while incorporating movement. They will be able to wobble, bounce, wiggle, and jiggle while learning!
