Our Le Monde Panthers are inquisitive kiddos who love to learn. However, in a busy day of being immersed in either French or Spanish, they often need to take a break. Some of them may have learning disabilities that cause them to wear out more easily. Some are from traumatic backgrounds that affect their regulation skills. Others may not have slept the night before because of fear or loud noises. The Panther "Pause" Place allows them to come into a safe environment and get their needs met. Sometimes that is through sensory play like swinging, spinning, or playing with sand and other textures. Sometimes it is through creating art, squeezing putty, interacting with fidget toys, or doing yoga. Some kiddos just need to sit in a quiet room full of calming smells, reading a book or listening to music on a bean bag for a few minutes. Even taking a nap in a safe place when a child is tired enables a child to learn better. At our school, we focus on serving students well. To do that, we have to meet the needs of the whole student- academically, physically, and emotionally. My hope is that this room is a safe haven for all and creates emotionally healthy lifelong learners.
