"Write to be Understood, Speak to be Heard, Read to Grow." ~ Lawrence Clark Powell I want my students to be life long readers, but I also want them to change and grow from the books they are exposed to. One way this can be done is by providing opportunities for students to read books that represent the wider world around us. Having a classroom library with more diverse books can help to validate a students sense of identity, value, and worth. As well as help others to understand those who are different than us by opening a window into their culture and beliefs. The books in my DonorsChoose wish list are specifically chosen to bring more diversity into our classroom library. My classroom is filled with students with diverse backgrounds. My library should reflect that diversity.
