A monitor will allow me to access remote student work with greater ease. Since all of our work is now digital, I need to toggle between tabs quite bit in order to evaluate essays and such. I use rubrics to grade writing in particular. Right now, I need to constantly switch tabs from their writing to rubric. What a time waster! I am already stretched too thin managing online content and converting every lesson to the digital realm. I want every moment possible spent working with kids, not wasted toggling between screens. In addition, having a monitor will enable me to engage with students while I am teaching them from my slides or screens. Currently, when I am teaching a writing lesson on the structure of a paragraph (for example), I am unable to see my student's faces on screen. So even though I may have an amazing teaching slide, I am unable to evaluate interest and understanding. This is a crucial aspect of teaching, as I need to be able to redirect and reteach in real time (just as I would in-person).
