Having a second monitor will allow me to more efficiently perform the online tasks I need to do while working with students. During a class period, I need to manage a Zoom session with breakout rooms, present a live lesson through another app, keep an eye on Hangouts and email to communicate with students who can't join Zoom, monitor the Zoom chat, refer to course content in the online textbook, and monitor student progress on assignments. Sometimes I also need to open other websites to show students other resources. So many tasks for one small computer screen! My students will benefit from my having a second screen because there will be less down time while I am switching between windows. I can also respond to students' questions more promptly in Zoom chat, email, and Hangouts if I can see those items on a separate screen. The time that I save by having more visual organization on my screens will be dedicated to making my lessons more engaging for my students.
