In the 4th Quarter, my Girls PE students will be completing a project using Project Based Learning method. My students will be designing workout programs for the members of the community to follow at home. Due to the Covid restrictions, many gyms are closed or functioning at a lower capacity level. Gyms are requiring face masks while you work out, which makes it difficult to breath heavily. Many other community members do not want to risk going to a gym to work out. That's where my class comes in! We want to help the community get/stay in shape, all while we learn about the phases of a workout, the major muscle groups, the best exercises to reach as many of the major muscle groups as possible, and learning how to workout in the target heart rate zone. Students will film themselves explaining and performing their workout to share with the community. Do you know if you are working hard enough in your workouts to maximize its benefits? You wouldn't be unless you are working in your target heart rate zone!! This is where you come in! How amazing would it be for my students to have a fitness tracker while they are designing their workouts and testing them out? Fitness trackers will easily display their heart rate so they will know if their exercises/workout are reaching their target heart rate zone. In this digital tech era, having a device that easily tracks their progress would enhance our project tremendously!!
