My school has recently shared our plans of reopening (transitioning from full distance learning to a hybrid model). With the first phase of reopening including all students in special education, our team anticipates that several students will struggle with the changes in routine, environment, and overall school experience. I am hoping to create individual fidget packs for students to use during their in-person classes. While we do have several fidgets currently in our classroom, we do not currently have enough for all students who need them. Especially now with COVID-19 and our community being a hotspot for positive cases, we hope to ensure the best safety and support that we can give the students. The fidgets from this project will be shared to support students' sensory needs, to support reducing anxiety or stress, to support students' focus, and/or to support their fine motor development. The materials will be included with the small fidgets that already are in the school building. They will be placed into individualized packs, addressing student needs and interests. As students begin reentering the school building, we foresee several of our kiddos struggling with how different and more restrictive the experience will be. Though these items may be small, these fidgets will be able to support our students in a big way.
