Several of my students were online learners last year and they grew accustomed to learning in places other than a desk. I have seen the value of allowing children to learn where they are the most comfortable. I encourage my students to sit wherever they feel they can be comfortable and productive. Several of my students love sitting on the floor, on the beanbag chair, or standing at their desk. Students learn best when they are comfortable and allowing them to have a variety of seating choices is one way I can help them learn and grow. Many of my students have constant wiggles and are often rocking their chairs back and forth or sitting every way they can possibly think of. I want to provide them with seating that allows them to wiggle while staying safe. I strongly believe that kids need the freedom to move often during the day and flexible seating can give them another outlet for movement. Even as an adult, I know I work and focus better when I can be fidgeting and moving around, so how can I expect my students to be any different? My kids are amazing, hard workers, and they deserve to have seating options that allow their creativity to blossom and their uniqueness to be valued and rewarded.
