Learning math remotely is incredibly difficult for students of all ages. For middle school students, having a human touch is essential to their learning. During the pandemic, students have risen to the challenge by learning new skills, managing their time, and taking ownership of their learning. Teachers have seen this and adapted their lessons using free resources such as Desmos to be able to see student thinking in real-time. The problem with using these resources is that the human element disappears because you need to have a browser window open to view their work, which means you cannot see the students you teach. With a second monitor, I will be able to actively monitor student work and be able to see students as if they were in my classroom. This will greatly benefit students since most of our communication is nonverbal. A second monitor will also enable me to receive feedback from students too shy to speak to the whole group but are willing to give feedback with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
