Please help give my 6th graders a chance to design, plant, and maintain a beautiful desert garden instead of the dirt patch outside of our classroom window. Springing from discussions of how the ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians cultivated crops in a harsh desert environment, students will get to be a part of the process of making a plan come to fruition. They will learn how xeriscape gardens are the most water-wise for our area, get in touch with nature by planting in the soil, and bring a sense of community pride to our school by helping to beautify it.
