English class isn't the typical place where discussions about the Supreme Court take place. I want to help create a narrative about the intersection between civics and literature. Connecting with relevant novels, I want to not only create a classroom where we can study the Supreme Court decisions that most affect students in their everyday lives but also to fill the equity gap that exists in teaching students about their rights and how to exercise them. The Supreme Court can create equity and justice by passing laws; students need to take an active part in learning about and understand those laws. We can do so through the literature we'll read.
