These devices (just like students using cell phones) will provide opportunities for students to engage in the digital activities we have in the classroom without forcing them to partner up with another student. Sometimes, these activities require individual grading on performance, so partnering isn't conducive to the results needed. I often use online quizzes in the classroom as a way to review before a test, and these students don't get the chance to participate in the same way. I also give out prizes to those who participate, and I don't want anyone to be left out who might want to participate as an individual.
