This project is intended to stock our classroom library with books featuring lead characters who are typically under represented in children's literature, such as Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) and girls/women. Research states students are more engaged in learning when they see themselves represented in their literature. As teachers, we are not always provided with literature that represents the students we teach, so we are thrilled to be curating this collection of books that better represents our student body. We plan to use these books to shape and inform our instruction. We will use them in read-alouds and to enhance their reading and writing skills. Please help us fund our project so we can continue to provide an anti-racist curriculum that centers around our BIPOC students.
