These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classrooms that we strive to create. Pre-K students work in two different journals, one for Writing and one for ABC letter practice. Emergent writing is young children’s first attempt at the writing process. Children as young as 2 years old begin to imitate the act of writing by creating drawings and symbolic markings that represent their thoughts and ideas (Rowe & Neitzel 2010; Dennis & Votteler 2013). This is the beginning of a series of stages that children progress through as they learn to write. Emergent writing skills, such as the development of name writing proficiency, are important predictors of children’s future reading and writing skills (National Center for Family & Literacy 2008; Puranik & Lonigan 2012). We need your help in getting everything purchased to make these books in-house. This will allow us to be able to make a new one immediately when a student arrives and cut down on costs by having it sent out to be made. We want students to have a love of writing and starting early is key.
