These materials are items that I could normally provide in a communal setting or wouldn't be necessary in a normal year. The individual whiteboards, markers and accessories will greatly help engage the students while teaching math in person. Doing math problems regularly in class is one of the best ways to learn how to do math. The red pens are for the students to grade their own work (I grade in other colors like green and purple). Red is a color highly associated with long term retention, so that is a reason I like to have the students use red pens to self grade math homework. The pencils are for me to give to the students since frankly, students break pencils a lot and I can't reuse them like normal years. I want to make sure that no matter the income or home situation, my students have the necessary supplies to learn. If any of these supplies aren't used this year, they will certainly be used going forward. I'm also a newer teacher that hasn't accumulated extra supplies from previous years to hand out. I'm also in graduate school currently, so my disposable income isn't much. Normally, I could reuse whiteboards, erasers, markers, pens and pencils each class period, but the school district is requiring that no items can be reused and must be individualized. This gets expensive quickly, so your generous support is greatly appreciated! I also put a pair of automatic hand sanitizer dispensers and some gloves in that will be used to promote safer hygiene practices. The batteries are for all my devices from the label maker, to the hand sanitizer dispensers, to the remote controls. I have a charger, but only six rechargeable batteries left that hold a charge.
