Many of my students learn best with hands-on learning. With a majority of my students having autism, sensory items help them be able to stay calm so they can be more focused for learning. My classroom is a Life Skills class, this means that not only are they learning math and English, they are also learning skills to be successful in life. This is my first year as a teacher, and so I don't have as many resources as most tenure teachers have. I am working to build a classroom that has the needed materials for my students to learn and to grow in an atmosphere that helps them feel safe and increases their desire to grow. Many of the items I have requested are to help my students learn basic skills. Sharing with classmates, learning to count and do addition, exploring their creative side, and learning about cause and effects. I have a student who loves to fix things, the Design Drill Kit is to help him hone his skills, and maybe one day he will be fixing cars in his own garage. Another student is inspiring is an inspiring building designer. He is always trying to build the biggest, strongest and best tower. The Magna Tiles sets are to help him keep on building. Many of my students don't like to do work without seeing a visual outcome. The Snap Circuit helps them to learn that hard work pays off.
