It's imperative that my classroom have books that are closely reflective of the student body. Our school is a multicultural urban school that serves students from diverse backgrounds (socioeconomic, cultural, and gender). My role as a special education teacher is to support students at their performance level, high or low. Reading is so important to build reading fluency and comprehension. This can only be done with just the right reading level books that interest them. I can see the smiles already when a fresh array of reading materials enter my classroom.
