My students will initially build their reading skills through hands-on phonics activities and reading immersion in non-fiction text. While they are developing their reading skills by using the phonics activities, they will be utilizing their reading skills through the reading of nonfiction text. Students will apply their newly acquired science knowledge from the nonfiction books as they work on STEM activities. They will be practicing science concepts through hands-on science experiments. Kindergarten students learn best by doing and exploring, so the phonics activities, nonfiction books, and STEM hands-on activities will help them learn, practice, and apply their new knowledge.
