I teach an intensive reading class where many of my students have an independent reading level that is significantly below their grade level. Studies show that the best way to grow in reading, is simply to read. When I spoke with the students, we discussed doing a classroom read and novel study. By reading a book our loud together, we can help foster a love for reading. This book was selected because it discusses difficult topics in regards to nature versus nurture and bullying. I think that this will open up opportunities for students to have these meaningful conversations. A classroom that reads together, learns together.
