My students have completed our reading program. We level at my school, so each child is taught at their instructional level at our K-5 charter school. After completing the required curriculum, students move into a literature class. I use literature circles to teach the books we read. My students are in the fourth and fifth grades. These students score high on district and state testing. They enjoy reading and are eager to read and share their thoughts as they read. In my literature class, they are forging bonds with their peers as they share their thoughts about the books we read. We read everything from classics, to historical fiction, multicultural stories and biographies. Through the literature my students are able to explore other worlds and other times in history.
