Paying attention takes mental effort. Distractions and unwanted noise in the classroom and at home affects a child's ability to focus. It can make reading and learning extremely difficult and increase the likelihood of their minds drifting away from instruction. Headphones help block out noise and makes them focus on the sounds coming out of the headphones. This can be a very powerful tool when teaching language lessons, for example, as it lets the child hear the subtleties in pronunciation, which is great for improving fluency and to increase skills.
