Learning encompasses more than just calculating a value or finding the right answers. Academic soft skills impact student success in and out of school more than how much knowledge they can acquire. Some examples of these skills include working with others to complete a task, constructively reviewing the work of others, turning assignments in on time or early, asking deep questions, and proposing ideas for extended learning. Academic Soft Skills cannot be measured with a multiple choice test or by assigning 100 points, but they can be recognized through Achievement Badges. Badging systems are a common mechanic within digital platforms and games. Badges have been shown to increase engagement and effort in games, why not the classroom? Buttons are a form of bading used for years by organizations and political parties. Again, why not use them in the classroom. With this button maker, I will be able to create a physical badge for students to showcases their classroom achievements. These buttons will a source of pride for every student in my class.
