All of the students in General Education PE get to participate in Jump Rope for Heart each year and I would like to give my students the same opportunity. Jump roping is a very difficult skill for most of my students. It takes a lot of coordination and endurance to master. I plan to help my students master this skill with slow progression. We will first practice jumping over a stationary object like a pool noodle multiple times, then work to jump over a slow-moving rope. Once students are able to jump over their own moving ball on a stick, we will advance to the skip ball. Once the skip ball is mastered, I will place jump ropes in pool noodles and teach the children how to swing them over their heads and step over. Then, I will remove the pool noodles and we will continue progressing until the students are able to jump rope 10 times independently.
