Many of my students are low income and live in very small apartments. They don't have tools to entertain themselves or keep themselves occupied. Due to the pandemic, they have too much time on their hands and feel isolated, depressed, and unmotivated. Giving them the opportunity to participate in this project will give them a sense of purpose. The first step to complete the project will be to learn about preterm babies and how 1.1 million preterm babies die each year due to a lack of inexpensive treatment. They will learn about the risks these children face of severe health problems and disabilities. They will learn how prematurity is a global issue. They will receive the threat and needles and begin to crochet a baby hat which they will learn through google meet. They will crochet the hat during their spare time at their home and return them to school. The hats will be collected and will be mailed to the hats for hope given to premature babies at various hospitals. They will learn that by serving in this project they will spread joy and encouragement to the parents. The baby's hat is a symbol of hope and comfort and aspiration. Students will learn a new skill and contribute to their society. They will learn about a world that is beyond their physical boundaries. Their spirits will be lifted by completing a concrete project that they can see the end result. They will feel a personal satisfaction to know that a baby in a hospital has been blessed by their work.
